Insurance Advisor – Personal Lines

Position Overview
The Insurance Advisor, Personal Lines is responsible for delivering comprehensive, client centric insurance solutions while protecting the financial integrity of MMI. This role balances day-to-day policy administration with consultative risk assessment, ensuring clients receive tailored advice on automobile, property, liability, and specialized coverage. By delivering
exceptional customer service, the Insurance Advisor naturally uncovers additional coverage needs, generating new business and organic growth through cross-selling and upselling.

Work Arrangement: This is an on-site position, with a flexible hybrid option available upon successful completion of the probationary period.

Key Responsibilities

Account Management & Policy Administration
• Complete personal lines insurance applications and endorsements for automobile, property, liability, and other lines.
• Establish precise client insurance coverage parameters, calculate accurate
premiums, and arrange formal payment methods.
• Manage multiple high-volume inbound and outbound calls efficiently throughout the day.
• Execute rigorous client follow-ups for outstanding payments to maintain policy active status.
• Order property inspections for new business and follow up systematically to ensure clients act on critical inspection report recommendations.

Underwriting Compliance & Risk Assessment
• Assess insurance risks, premiums, and policy conditions using required underwriting tools and systems (e.g., FMRE and FUS).
• Ensure all applications, endorsements, and renewals are accurate and complete.
• Apply sound underwriting judgment within MMI’s binding authority, including independently evaluating and declining risks in accordance with underwriting guidelines and risk standards.

Client Consultation & Business Development
• Act as a trusted advisor by clearly explaining policy coverages, exclusions, and limitations to clients.
• Identify coverage gaps and support business growth through cross-selling and upselling of auto and property insurance products.

Professional Development & Compliance
• Maintain compliance with all Alberta insurance regulations and licensing requirements.
• Complete required Continuing Education (CE) hours annually to maintain licensing. Team & Collaborative Support (As Needed)
• Collaborate with internal teams, including Underwriting, Accounting, IT, and Loss Control, to support efficient operations.
• Represent MMI at industry and marketing events and perform additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

Licensing & Experience
• A valid Alberta Level 1 General Insurance License with demonstrated industry experience is required. Preference will be given to candidates who have an Alberta Level 2 General Insurance License.
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience in Alberta property, casualty, and automobile personal lines insurance (regardless of license level).

Technical & System Skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office 365 application suite (Outlook, Teams, etc), and standard office hardware (headsets, laptops, multi monitor usage).
• Experience with SigXP, Cognition+, and broker portals such as Peace Hills, Aviva, Economical Insurance, Premier Marine, AMI, and Hagerty is considered an asset.

Core Competencies
• Consultative Communication: Exceptional active listening skills to uncover root cause client needs, paired with clear, professional written and verbal communication.
• Risk Discernment: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to evaluate complex account histories, justify risk decisions, and implement the best insurance solutions.
• Client Experience Excellence: Proven track record in customer service representative (CSR) workflows, including handling multi-line endorsements and high-volume phone management.
• Confidentiality & Discretion: Absolute adherence to privacy rules and strict maintenance of confidential information regarding policyholders, staff, and management.
